pluggable authentication module for SMB/CIFS password database

This is a stackable PAM module that allows a system administrator to easily migrate to using encrypted passwords for Samba and to keep smb passwords in sync with unix passwords. Unlike other solutions, it does this without requiring users to change their existing passwords or login to Samba using cleartext passwords.
Package version:3.0.24-6etch10

pam_smbpass is a PAM module which can be used on conforming systems to
keep the smbpasswd (Samba password) database in sync with the unix
password file. PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) is an API supported
under some Unices, such as Solaris, HPUX and Linux, that provides a
generic interface to authentication mechanisms.

For more information on PAM, see

This directory contains example configurations demonstrating various uses
of pam_smbpass. These examples use Linux-style /etc/pam.d syntax, and
must be modified for use on Solaris systems.
