nsca

Nagios service monitor agent

Variants:
This addon allows you to send service check results to a central monitoring server running Nagios in a reasonably secure manner.

Nagios is a monitoring and management system for hosts, services and networks.

Nagios' features include:

- Monitoring of network services (via TCP port, SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NNTP, PING, etc.) - Plugin interface to allow for user-developed service checks - Contact notifications when problems occur and get resolved (via email, pager, or user-defined method) - Ability to define event handlers to be run during service or host events (for proactive problem resolution) - Web output (current status, notifications, problem history, log file, etc.)

Nagios was written in C and is designed to be easy to understand and modify to fit your own needs.

nsca for Debian
---------------

This is the debian package of nsca. by default nsca works with an
init script /etc/init.d/nsca, however, it can also be run from the
various inetd implementations.

If you want to launch nsca as a daemon from init you can call
"dpkg-reconfigure nsca" to get the startup links.

if you want nsca to work with inetd, you need to add the following
line to your inetd.

Purpose
-------
The purpose of this addon is to allow you to send service check
results to a central monitoring server running Nagios in a secure

nsca (2.4-6) unstable; urgency=low

  * nsca no longer uses inetd, but instead runs in a daemon mode. This
should make lives easier as before it was only compatible with one
inetd, and registering/configuring with the different inetd services
is a conceptually broken process anyway.
