nano

small, friendly text editor inspired by Pico

Variants:
GNU nano is an easy-to-use text editor originally designed as a replacement for Pico, the ncurses-based editor from the non-free mailer package Pine (itself now available under the Apache License as Alpine).

However, nano also implements many features missing in pico, including: - feature toggles; - interactive search and replace (with regular expression support); - go to line (and column) command; - auto-indentation and color syntax-highlighting; - filename tab-completion and support for multiple buffers; - full internationalization support.

GNU nano - an enhanced clone of the Pico text editor.

Overview

The nano project was started because of a few "problems" with the

redistribution. Because of this, Pine and Pico are not

nano for Debian
----------------------

Nano should provide a good replacement for the Pico package in Debian, given
Pico's non-freeness. Maybe you want to create a symlink for Pico that points
to Nano and uninstall the original Pico package. If Nano is invoked as
"pico", it will start up in the "pico compatibility mode", which will aid in
this change.
