regina-normal

software for 3-manifold topology and normal surfaces

Variants:
Regina is a suite of mathematical software for 3-manifold topologists. It focuses on the study of 3-manifold triangulations and normal surfaces.

Other highlights of Regina include angle structures, census enumeration, combinatorial recognition of triangulations, and high-level tasks such as 3-sphere recognition and connected sum decomposition. Regina comes with a full graphical user interface, and also offers Python bindings and a low-level C++ programming interface.

This package includes the graphical user interface and the command-line Python interface. The users' handbook and the API documentation are in the separate package regina-normal-doc, and the MPI-enabled utilities for high-performance clusters are in the separate package regina-normal-mpi.

Regina for Debian
-----------------

Regina comes with two main binaries:

- /usr/bin/regina-gui, which starts the graphical user interface;
- /usr/bin/regina-python, which starts a command-line Python session.

Regina also provides several other specialised command-line tools; see the
users' handbook for details.

To get started, take a look at the users' handbook. You can find it in

Regina Census and Examples Directory
------------------------------------

This directory contains several different censuses of triangulations.
Each census file begins with a text packet explaining what the census is
and where the data came from. You can access these censuses directly
through Regina's main menu:

  File -> Open Example -> ... (choose which census you want)

There are also exampl

Regina Python Library Directory
-------------------------------

This directory contains some examples of Python libraries.

To activate these libraries with Regina, you can either:

- open Regina's preferences, bring up the Python options, and add these
  files into your list of active Python libraries;

- type the full names of these files directly into ~/.regina-libs ,
  one file per line.
