netcat-traditional

TCP/IP swiss army knife

Variants:
A simple Unix utility which reads and writes data across network connections using TCP or UDP protocol. It is designed to be a reliable "back-end" tool that can be used directly or easily driven by other programs and scripts. At the same time it is a feature-rich network debugging and exploration tool, since it can create almost any kind of connection you would need and has several interesting built-in capabilities.

This is the "classic" netcat, written by *Hobbit*. It lacks many features found in netcat-openbsd.

netcat for Debian
-----------------

A symlink to the netcat binary called 'netcat' has been installed.
However, the canonical name is still 'nc'. If you use netcat on other
systems, it will probably only be installed as 'nc', so keep this in
mind when writing scripts.

For now, read the header comments inside each of these for documentation.
The programs are simple enough that they don't really need a Makefile any more
complex than the one given; ymmv. Data and xor may also be useful on DOS,
which is why there are hooks for it in the code.
