NSD was primarily developed by NLnet Labs on request from and in close cooperation with RIPE NCC, as an alternative name server software to be run on the root name server RIPE NCC operates.
Note: 3.x configuration is not backward compatible with the 2.x series, but lives in /etc/nsd3 so it won't overwrite your nsd 2.x one.
nsd 3.x for Debian ================== Beware that using nsd commands have often to be performed as user ‘nsd’ and not ‘root’, so that the files it touches or create have the correct permissions. The Debian /etc/init.d/nsd3 script hence contains wrappers around nsdc performing the tasks under the proper user, avoiding the need to bother with switching users. -- Pierre Habouzit <madc more»
