Display information about pending events on login
Given a list of the dates of various different events, works out and
displays a list of those which will come up in the next couple of
weeks. This was originally designed for birthdays, but can equally be
used for reminders about yearly events, or for a running diary.
Note that if you want to use vcf2birthday script you will need perl.
This is a little program which I originally wrote when I was learning
C, some time ago now. It has gone through a couple of total
re-writes, the last of which was four or five years ago now, but I
still find it a useful program.
It displays a list of events which are coming up in the near future,
based on a config file (~/.birthdays) in the user's home directory. I
include it in my
birthday - warn about upcoming birthdays and other events
birthday [-w|-c] [-f file] [-W defwarn] [-M maxwarn] [-m min‐
warn] [-l lines] [-p weeks] [-d total] [-i width]
The birthday command reads a file, by default ~/.birthdays,
which gives a list of events
cat ~/.gnome/GnomeCard.gcrd | vcf2birthday.pl | birthday ‐f ‐
vcf2birthday - Convert VCARD files to birthday database
The vcf2birthday command reads a VCARD file from the standard
input, and outputs a birthday-compatible database.
cat ~/.gnome/GnomeCard.gcrd | vcf2bir
