As a notification daemon registers itself to D-Bus, you can have only one installed at the moment, meaning notification-daemon _or_ notification-daemon-xfce, but not both.

Notification-daemon-xfce is a port of Gnome's notification-daemon for the Xfce desktop. It depends on the following packages: * gtk >= 2.6.0 * libxfce4util >= 4.3.90 * libxfcegui4 >= 4.3.90 * dbus >= 0.36 * libsexy >= 0.1.3 The Xfce version also uses xfce4-dev-tools for creating the make files.
