fityk

general-purpose nonlinear curve fitting and data analysis

Variants:
Fityk is a flexible and portable program for nonlinear fitting of analytical functions (especially peak-shaped) to data (usually experimental data). In other words, for nonlinear peak separation and analysis.

It was developed for analyzing diffraction patterns, but can be also used in other fields, since concepts and operations specific for crystallography are separated from the rest of the program.

Fityk offers various nonlinear fitting methods, subtracting background, calibrating data, easy placement of peaks and changing peak parameters, automation of common tasks with scripts, and much more. The main advantage of the program is flexibility - parameters of peaks can be arbitrarily bound to each other, eg. the width of a peak can be an independent variable, can be the same as the width of another peak or can be given by a complicated - common to all peaks - formula. role::program, scope::utility, uitoolkit::wxwidgets, x11::application

The freedesktop.org standards put all scientific software into a top level
menu category called "Education". This is short-sighted and just plain
wrong but until they change it, has to be rectified in the Window Manager
configurations. KDE and Gnome already provide for a "Science" top level
category but XFCE4 does not. It is relatively easy to make this change,
however.

This directory contains small samples of data
and scripts that are used to test the program.

nacl01 - 'Hello world' sample
SiC_Zn - Powder pattern sample
read-shockley - fitting a single user-defined function
enso - fitting sines and cosines (data from Southern Oscillation Index)
test_syntax - testing the command parser, just a set of random commands

hello.cc - testing the fityk library (C++)
