jdk-common

JDK (Java Development Kit)

This is a Debian packaging of Randy Chapman's Linux port of Sun's JDK. The JDK will allow you to run Java programs and applets as well as write your own. If you recompile your kernel with Java executables enabled, you can even "run" Java programs just like regular executables. The package also includes a number of demo programs.

If you have the shared ELF Motif libraries, you can use the jdk-shared package, otherwise use the jdk-static package. The common package is required either way. If you have no clue about it, a safe bet is to install jdk-static.

Check out 'http://www.javasoft.com/' for general information on Java, and 'http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html' for specific information on the Linux port.
